Kit list

Your adventure begins here. Gather everything on your kit list, pack your bags, and let’s go!

(1) TRAVEL LOG

You will need a notebook or sketchbook to capture your responses to the ‘Explorer’s Log’ worksheets, your a-ha moments and any seemingly random thoughts that pop up as you travel through the course. Make a note of everything. Think of it as gathering clues as you unravel the mystery of your life. Write it all down, take photos of things that inspire you (as you will suddenly start noticing a lot more), cut out interesting articles from magazines and newspapers, draw sketches, make art – capture your journey however works for you, but be sure to take notes as you go.

(2) CAMERA

You don’t need a fancy camera (although if you have one and love taking pictures, great!) The camera on your phone will work just fine. I would encourage you to try to take a photo every day of this course – whether that is a picture of something you sketched out, or something that represents an idea you had, or even just something that made you smile. You will travel a long way in the next five weeks, and it will be amazing to look back over a visual documentation of that journey.

(3) STUFF + STASH

If you are a hoarder of papery/crafty stuff, please feel free to use it and interpret the exercises in your own way. Cut and stick, draw and write, do whatever works for you to get your ideas on paper.  I suggest you gather at least: scissors, glue, good pens to write with. Please also print out a couple of photos of yourself as you will need these for some of the exercises.

(4) OPEN HEART + MIND

We will be asking you to ask yourself some big questions, explore tough topics, and challenge yourself to grow. You have invested in this experience, so keep an open mind and heart and give it every opportunity to work for you.

(5) SENSE OF CURIOSITY

Stay interested. Try new things. Ask questions. You never know where it will lead you.

This is YOUR adventure. The course has been designed as a five-week experience, but you can do it faster or more slowly than that, depending on what’s going on in your life and what you need right now.

The course builds from ‘week’ to ‘week’, so I do encourage you to go through it in order. If you find something particularly challenging, talk it through with a friend, or leave it for a while and come back to it. Do try to return at some point though, becuase it is often the toughest challenges that give us the greatest opportunity to grow.

It can make a huge difference if you block out time in your diary to dive into this course. You might want to make a twice-weekly date with it, or check in daily, or use it as inspiration for your weekends. Whatever works for you is fine, but remember it only works if you do! This is an investment in the rest of your life, so please do make time for it.

When you finish a lesson, be sure to click ‘Mark Complete’ at the bottom of the post so you can track your progress.

1.1 The most important question of all

In order to ‘do what you love,’ surely the first thing you need to do is to answer the question, “What do I want to do?”, right? Well, actually, no. I want you to ignore that question for now, and instead ask yourself a much more important one.

Click here for the option to view the video on Vimeo.com or download it.

Throughout this course, you will get a series of ‘Explorer’s’ Log’ worksheets to help you find out things about yourself. In the final week, you’ll pull together all that you have discovered along the way to help plot the rest of your journey towards doing what you love.

Discover. Dis-cover. Remove the cover, the mask. See the real you. Strip away the roles you play, quieten the noise, and see what is there. As you set out on this journey, ponder the questions in the Explorer’s Log below (click on the arrow image to download it).

PLEASE READ: All exercises in this course are interactive PDFs which means you can type into them. Please make sure you download and SAVE them FIRST, and THEN type into them (and keep saving as you go, as you usually would), otherwise you may lose your work. If you have any issues with the PDFs please check you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, or sign up for full Adobe Acrobat (this is usually available on a free trial). Alternatively you can just print the PDFs and write by hand, or type up your answers on a normal Word document.

Before we go any further, it’s really important that you give yourself real permission to do this.

  • Permission to commit to this course, and setting aside the time you are going to need to ponder, question, explore and make changes.
  • Permission to dream big.
  • Permission to entertain crazy ideas.
  • Permission to leave those old stories behind.
  • Permission to choose a path which feels right for you.
  • Permission to do what you love.
  • If you have been looking to other people to give you permission all your life, that stops now.
  • The only permission you need is your own.
  • Click on the image to download your Permission Granted mini poster. Print it out, add your name, sign it and stick it somewhere you can see it every single day.
